Many companies are faced with the question, how do you get employees to show up when there seem to be no instructors or classmates lending support or noticing when somebody blows off the class? The answer is synchronous e-learning—using live instructors. This method offers several advantages over asynchronous (also called self-paced) e-learning. It uses instructors who lead regularly scheduled classes and who engage students in live chat or question-and-answer dialog via VoIP (Voice over IP) connections, and standard Web browsers hooked into software from vendors such as Centra Software, Global Knowledge, Gradepoint, and KnowledgeNet, among others.
