 VClass LMS is an open source e-learning delivery system developed by Distributed Education Center, subunit of Internet Education and Research Laboratory, Asian Institute of Technology. It is specifically designed for delivering on-line courses by two different methods - through "virtual classroom learning” and “virtual class on demand".
In the "virtual classroom setting", there is a synchronous (inter)activity, in which students and instructors participate in live conversations via audio and video while working together with synchronous collaborative software packages for chat or by using VoIP technology.
The "virtual class on demand" method allows learners to use computer and communications technologies to work with remote learning resource, i.e., instructors and other learners, without the necessity of being on-line at the same time.
VClass Authoring Tool Provides a rich content development environment. This tool allows any user to create, edit, manage and build easy-to-use online courses. The system supports major multimedia components such as Flash, HTML, image (bmp,jpg,gif) files, which can be easily integrated in the course content creation video and audio files in different formats and can be synchronized with the multimedia components through the use of the system's Event Scripts Creator providing the end user an attractive high quality professional look course online.
VClass Learning Management System (LMS) incorporates delivery feature such as registration course delivery, grading and reporting. Vclass Learning Management System can operate on top of any operating system, such as Linux and Microsoft Windows. It merely requires standard Web related components to operate, such as the web server, MySql(Database Server) and PHP. Text contents created by the VClass Authoring Tool can be deployed onto the Web server whereas video contents are stored on a video streaming server like Microsoft Media Server or Real Media Server.
